The L's of City Connect

AURANGABAD
LAWRENCE SCHOOL UNIFORM
When most uniforms were in the shades of Grey; White or Brown- we had a bright Yellow on us. As Lawrentian girls- we had Yellow Shirt- Dark Blue Skirt and a Tie to wear on. Head accessories were a must. Yellow Hair-bands for Short haired ones & Blue Ribbons for the pony tailed. In 5th grade when school introduced us to "Knot Tie" - Dad taught us how to master this art.

BOMBAY
LAVIKA PALACE- A large society with an open car park right in the centre.  Our building shared a  common wall with this society. A scenic beauty to watch from the 1st floor of our window. Many posts on this blog owe their genesis to this window.

CHENNAI
LINGUSTIC CHALLENGES - It's been more than 5 years in Chennai- but challenges with regional language Tamil continue till date. Its more to do with numbers than words now.  Picture this- If there is someone new to English Language & you say "Quarter Past Six."; instead of a simple- Six Fifteen.
In Tamil - on similar lines( not exactly the same).
An auto guy, tells me he would take " Kaal Mani Neeram" . to pick me up. It sounded like a long time.  So I canceled & took another one. Had he said " Payyinju Nimisham" [ 15 mins] - I would have waited!

Hope the auto guy came in 15 minutes. Usually in Chennai (or is it in the whole of India?) if someone says he will come in pathu nimisham (in ten minutes) he will usually come after 2 hours. If someone says he will come in arai mani nerathla (in half an hour) he will come after 8 hours.

Quarter Past Six is how I learnt English at school ;) Great memories here.

Wow SG- I am amazed at your Tamil Vocabulary
India is different now - timings are cautiously adhered to. And there is conscious effort from general public and service providers to keep up punctuality.
