PTA (Parents- Teachers Association), has filed a Public Interest Litigation ( PIL),
challenging the ambiguous nature of the proverb “Well begun is half done”. The
PIL states, the proverb gives an impression, that a task remains incomplete -
despite a good beginning. Parents fear,
this will have an adverse affect on their child's discipline.
Hearing Bench of the case is confused with this whole issue.
They tried to explain the PTA that “half done” should be taken in positive
sense. PTA refused to accept any explanation seeking a
complete ban on such ambiguous quotes.
The court is planning to form a special
literary committee who will present their understanding of the case. Education
Ministry has also been guided to take up this matter at the upcoming
International Literary Meet.
At state level, activists and Language enthusiasts have
woken up to a new realization. According to them, imported proverbs and quotes
are likely to create ambiguity and confusion. There is a demand to convert all English
Quotes & Proverbs to National Language. Government has not reacted to this, as the matter is sub-judice.
Meanwhile, another proverb - “Rolling stone gathers no Moss" comes under PIL attack.Parasites breeding on mosses have raised objection,
that their staple diet is being targeted.
Disclaimer: Committing to a month long blogging schedule, has caused this imaginative outburst. Hence please treat this as a work of pure fiction.
